Celebrate the life and work of Premier William Forgan Smith (1932-1942).
Queensland Parliament
17:30 – 19:30
In many respects, Premier Forgan Smith was the architect for our modern Queensland. His vision for regional development and rural industries, public infrastructure, energy supply, water policy, and the establishment of the St Lucia campus of The University of Queensland and four key faculties has impacted the lives of all Queenslanders.
His achievements are even more extraordinary given he was Premier during the Great Depression and World War 2.
His legacy will be analysed and celebrated by a distinguished panel.
Emeritus Professor Kay Saunders AO
Dr Yorick Smaal FRHS (London | Griffith University)
Mr Chris Whiting MP
Light refreshments will be served.
We request that you RSVP here: bit.ly/3Avk5ps by COB 21 June 2023 to facilitate the catering arrangements.
If you have Scottish ancestry, you are welcome to wear clan kilts and sashes.

Covid 19 advice from the United Service Club:
Evidence of full vaccination will have to be presented on entry for all visitors to the Club over the age of 16 years. We request that all Members ensure their guests to the Club are aware of the mandate prior to coming to the Club. This is a significant change and means that when visiting the Club or attending an event, it will be mandatory to present your Government-issued COVID-19 vaccination certificate on entry to the Club.
From the 19 th of November, you’ll be able to link your vaccination certificate into your check-in Qld app. This will be the simplest method for those already using the check-in app.
A benefit to the Club of this change is that there won’t be, any restrictions on numbers of vaccinated people within the Clubhouse. Further information is available at the Qld Government website: - Link here
NOTE: As we are nearly at the capacity of the venue, we have ceased automatic ticket sales.
If you wish to attend please call Alex McConnell on 0417 783 740
